Edith Mitchell Health Initiative (EMHI) began as a mission to provide financial opportunity for aspiring nurses attending Bishop State Community College and Tuskegee University. This vision has expanded to include health initiatives for minority communities.
The EMHI is named in honor of Edith Louise Mitchell. Mitchell founded the nursing program and empowered students at Carver State Technical College ( now affiliated with Bishop State Community College). Hundreds of nurses owe their career to the time and talents Mitchell exuded. She demanded perfection from nursing professionals and their commitment to excellence and compassion for their patients. Mitchell was a proud graduate of Tuskegee Institute!
Her compassion for people and their health is the core foundation of EMHI.
